TLALOCnet stands for Transboundary, Land and Atmosphere Long-term Observational and Collaborative network. Tlaloc was the Aztec god of water and rain feared for his ability to deliver hail, rain, and lightning and was also associated with the mountains and caves of Mesoamerica. This Nahuatl name means "he who is the embodiment of the earth"; thus, it aptly provides a linkage between the solid earth and water cycle roles envisioned for this cGPS network in Mexico.
